TWILIGHT MEMORY

THE MOMENT OF DESCENT

The sunset and the tides are the universal constants in life. Realizing this, I photographed the sunsets nightly in the same location minutes before it vanished beneath the horizon. The sun burned an imprint into each Polaroid marking its descent. After amassing hundreds of them I built color fields to convey our shared awe and unconditional surrender to nature’s unflinching pattern of time.

THE INFINITE SPECTRUM

During my curation process of over 500 Polaroids countless choices posed an intimidating number of design prospects. For weeks I distilled various arrangements by tone, color, sun location and more. The last round ordered by color shifts proved most effective. However, the daunting options for Twilight Memory II are something I can’t begin to comprehend as more Polaroids fill the library of opportunity. . .

MAPPING A BLACK HOLE

A unique trait of Polaroid film ensures there will never be an identical twin. At sunset the light burns a black hole during exposure where one would expect a glowing orb instead. Subsequently each Polaroid acquires a signature black hole imprinted by the sun. Shooting over a thousand from the same vantage point has mapped the graceful migration of the sun’s imprint through seasonal shifts unfolding into an infinite spectrum of remarkable hues.
